Grrrrrrr
OK, so I have a shop I supplied some corsets to. Last week they called me and said they wanted some small sizes. For Monday. So I knock myself out, specially recutting some of my patterns (I specialise in 16+) and almost blow up my sewing machine in my desperation to meet the deadline, which I do.
I then call them to be told that the buyer is not there. Mildly upset.
I am told that they will call me today, first thing in the morning. It's 11am. No phone call. Pretty mad.
Fuck it, I am ebaying them. I have put up one as I actually have the second one finished except for eyelets, which I have run out of. I have to go fetch some for other items, so I can finish it if I get a bid on it AND sell the original. I hate being messed about like this. This is the only place which doesn't pay me up front and this is the second time they have done this, the last time they landed me with a bunch of corsets in sizes 18 - 24 that they decided they didn't need. I sold all but one of them, which I kept for myself, on ebay, but still, it's not fair. I am having to delay orders because of this, and I am being kept hanging around, waiting for a call, when I could be getting on with other things. And they can pay me UP FRONT before I make any more corsets for them.
I'm going to ring them (AGAIN) and see what's going on. If I don't get the answer "Come in and drop them off and collect your cash, Ms McGowan" I am selling the whole clucking lot on ebay.

If this is the second time they have done this to you, I would demand that they either pay you upfront or pay half as a deposit if you let them order from you again. If they ask why, then explain to them that you can't trust them to pay you at the end of a job.
Makes me mad when things like this happen :(
Going to go and check your auctions now... I was nosing through your feedback and looked at some of the previous things you have made and sold and I must say that your items are *Gorgeous* and just what I am after :D Especially the corset tops!

The problem with ebay is, you never really get what the item is worth. I have had to let a steel boned Tudor corset in chinese SILK (not cheap rayon crap) go for £30, because people just don't want to pay what you ask.
I'm starting the corsets at £20, I get the best response when I do that, with no reserve. That way I get my materials costs back and a small amount towards making them, however as I usually charge £65 for a corset (and that's cheap, I'm charging what other places charge wholesale) I kind of feel cheated :( I'm sure the hair sellers can sympathis with this, as what their work goes for sometimes is just pathetic, there's no way you can make a living on that.
My real money comes from orders, and I get a few of those by word of mouth, which is good :)
However, I will be knocking up some long, plus size skirts this week and I always get good response on those as they are so hard to find. That should sort things out!
